OK, after looking at the head, and finding no cracks, or any other visible damage except for the 8 intake valves(which are flat and level with the head gasket surface), I am strongly considering rebuilding this head. What's the likelyhood that the guides were damaged? I have access to all the tools and equipment I will need at work and school, and parts shouldn't be all that expensive. Also, I have a source for a brand new, bare 2.0L head, should that be necessary. Here's the preliminary list of parts that I will need:
intake valves lifters cam chain head gasket head bolts valve stem seals front engine seals intake manifold gasket coolant flange gaskets crankshaft gear(I may have one sitting here...) crankshaft gear bolt timing belt tensioner lower timing belt cover(the gear trashed it) I will be getting prices for all of this at work tomorrow. If it comes out above $350, I will be the first to give these "Aluminum Head Rebuilders" people a shot. Now, my question is this: is the 1.8L head THAT great of an upgrade? If so, I may just go that route anyway. Thanks in advance, guys... -Dave '91 GTX 16V _____________ List Sponsor: http://www.netsville.com To remove yourself from this list, send mail to [email protected] with 'unsubscribe a2_16v' in the body of your message See us on the web at http://www.a2-16v.com Visit the 16V Homepage at http://www.gti16v.org
