through the A/C bracket (on the engine side) is missing. I bought
a new one from the dealership (only $1.85!), and tried putting it
in but something's blocking it. I have a feeling part of the old one
sheared off and is stuck way inside there.

Is there anything I can do to get it out? Do I just need to replace
the whole bracket? I'd rather not go to that much trouble if

I have the exact same thing. Unfortunately, I haven't done a damn thing to
fix it in 2 years. Other than a little noise and of course being unable to
use the a/c, it's been NO problem...yet! I did, however, go to the junkyard
and get another alt/a/c/water pump/whatever--bracket in case something does
happen or I finally decide to fix the damn thing. The only other alternative
(due to the angle) is to go from shop to shop to find someone willing to
extract or tap a new hole or try it yourself. That has always been such a
pain in the arse for me that I much prefer unbolting all that mess and
popping a new bracket on...I believe all those brackets are the same for 8
and 16v cars but I am not sure...anybody?????????
Good luck,
Philip
