The real problem is that the exhaust system isn't hung correctly (at
least one sick joke comes to mind).  The cause is most likely that
the rear portion of the exhaust is fractionally too far forward, thus
forcing the exhaust onto the crossmember.  Either that or throw the
crossmember in the trash.
