SCCA (and most sanctioning bodies) recommend a kill switch location
that's accessible to both the driver and safety workers which leaves
the cowl out of the question.  In the new car, we modified a sway-bar
bracket from a MB 190E (1 1/2" aperture) that clamps to the main
hoop.  Other folks have welded tabs to their cages to accomplish the
same goal - in any case, I'd recommend an inside position for
accessibility and weather protection.
