Something everyone needs in his/her emergency toolbox: self-sealing
silicone tape (no adhesive; the stuff sort of "heals" where it overlaps).
Available from Radio Shack, or from Pegasus Racing. I advised a friend to try
it as an emergency wrap over his torn CV boot, when he had to make a 400 mile
trip over Memorial Day weekend. We ordered the new boot from Mark at
Adirondack, but didn't have time for it to arrive & get installed. He was
still running the tape yesterday when I saw him; hasn't leaked or slipped a bit
so far, has maybe 1500 miles on now.
Should be the ideal item for the torn-boot-above-the-air-filter routine,
too. I've got a roll...
Supposed to handle radiator hoses/heater hoses, but haven't tried. Suspect
the "healing" time would shoot it down for the roadside emergency on coolant
hoses, but there IS tape made just for that use, anyway, sort of heavy-duty
duct tape, in black (at least, all I've seen). It DOES work immediately, BTW.
BTDT.
