Hey all,
I noticed a small crack in my timing belt this weekend, and even
though it only has 5k on it, I decided to replace it. Since I've had
some timing belt related issues in the past, I ordered a Kent
competition belt that will hopefully be a little more durable. I'm also
trying to replace my cam gear at the same time. My question is this; is
it possible to R&R the cam gear without pulling the cams out? I was
thinking something along these lines: Set the crank to 1/4 turn past TDC
to provide some clearance for the pistons and valves, and then using an
impact gun to remove the bolt. Or, I was going to use a pry bar in one
of the gear spokes to hold it in place while I use a conventional
ratchet on the bolt. Which way, if either sounds better, or is there a
better way than both? Thanks.
Cheers,
Pat
