I have a friend with a 90 Jetta GL 8V who says his 2nd gear syncro is gone. It makes hellacious noise in 2nd but other gears are ok. Looking for a good+cheap transmission rebuilder in Puget Sound area. OR a rebuilt example for a fair price. Stock only, no Quaffes and such. Will go as far as Olympia, Portland maybe. He lives on Whidbey Island. Junkyards around here suck ass so please don't suggest that. Somebody told him that mexican and german transmissions are different. I thought this was bunk, the same shop quoted 1500 for a rebuild - ouch. Email privately if you have suggestions.
