My GF has an 88 CRX Si, great little car! I would get a 88-92 SI and put
a B16A1 or B18C1 motor in it, it would be an absolute rocket then (as
you know)... OR, if you want to end it all, you could get an 88 CRX with
the B16 in it, and order the Vortech V5 blower for it, and have 272HP at
the wheels, in a car that weighs 2100# completely stock and fully
loaded.... Out of the cars you mentioned the CRX would be the cheapest
to maintain, but maybe not the cheapest iniatlly. If you can get over
the whole car being "backwards" (down to the motor rotating the wrong
way...) then it shouldnt be a big deal. The PGM-EFI system rarely goes
bad, and it is ultra simple. I praise the Honda's for simplicity and
reliablity. My GF's car has 188K miles on it, and it will still do 0-60
in like 8 secs without a problem at all, from 108HP. I am planning on
surprising her with a ZC 1.6L DOHC motor for it later this summer (for
our anniversary) the ZC makes 130HP and bolts right inplace of the D16
that the Si has stock... As far as the 323GTX goes, they are a riot too,
but sorta rare and hard to get stuff for, at least here where I live. I
personally would rather have a 2.0L 16V in an A2 or a 1.8T over a VR6.
VR6's are heavey and again, pretty $$$$ to upgrade. With the 323 you
have boost on your side, and with the CRX you get a HUGE aftermarket. I
say get a CRX, make it bad-ass and smoke all the bodykitted, huge
wheeled Rice Boys in your town.....
