I believe that the output for VW's is 13v or so. I think 14.4v is another standard.

Subject: Re: Alternator & Ground Test Results

I was testing my grounds and alternator output.

Here are my results...

        NO LOAD |UNDER LOAD
        --------------------
Battery + to - 13.20V | 12.14V
Alt + to Block 13.46V | 12.67V
Alt + to Batt - 13.42V | 12.55V

When I say Load I turned on the Radio, A/C to max, internal fan on high,
Rear Defogger, High-Beams, hazzards, and waited for the rad fan to go on
High.

I also tested the Voltage with a Booster Cable from the Battery Negitive
to the block and here are my results.

        NO LOAD |UNDER LOAD
        --------------------
Battery + to - 13.23V | 12.32V (with booster cable)
Alt + to Block 13.48V | 12.75V (with booster cable)
Alt + to Batt - 13.40V | 12.65V (with booster cable)

What do you guys think?

TIA,
Mark Reda.

I guess I should follow the threads more closely... Those voltages sound pretty decent... a little low maybe. Normally look for about 13.8-14.4 while the motor is running. I am guessing that the car was isling during these tests, which might make the voltage a little lower.
