On a 1.8 16v the only cams that don't hurt torque is
the european intake cam.  I had this then went to the
256's on my scirocco.  I did lose some torque over the
european cam with the sricks.  On a 2.0 its a
different story.  I say go with the euro intake cam. 
You can buy them new for $225 from tt.  or you can
have yours reground for $85 from www.deltacams.com 
(I've used them in the past and the service is good. )
 I don't know how the regrinds are because I put the
eurocam back (not the 1st one that I spoke of above. 
I sold that one to finance the sricks) into my
scirocco then parked it.  So its got like 10 miles on
it....
