1.5? no way. WIth air tools it takes me at least 4 hours. Granted, I'm far from an expert, and I like to do the job carefully. Removing the headbolts takes at least 20min, if done per Bentley. Pulling the exhaust manifold, at least another 20. Right there you're pushing half the allotted time; nevermind the timing belt, setting the car to TDC, valve cover, draining various fluids. I could see a shop knocking it out in ~3hrs, but 1.5, no way. Why don't you have the manufacurer call the dealiership for a surprise. HTH

Subject: Estimate on Hours for R&R 16v head
Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 15:53:40 -0400

Hey all,

How many hours estimated for RRing a 16v head. I have a warranty on an
engine that needs to have the head removed and inspected. Supplier is
willing to pay reasonable labor costs for a garage to do the work. They are
stating reasonable hrs as 1.5 hrs removal, the same to replace, total
3hrs!!! This engine is in a car, w/ AC. This seems pretty quick to me...I
haven't done this previous though....

Whaddaya think? BS.......?
