Sorry, but you are wrong on all accounts here. The heads are not stamped with the engine code, the blocks are. If you can't tell the intake ports apart, look for the part number stomed on the front of the head. A 2L head with start with 051, and a 1.8L head will start with 027. And if you have a stock '86 GLI, you will have an RD 8V engine.
