Most likely.  There's not much else that would rattle when the clutch is
depressed.  May also be the pressure plate.  If there were excessive end
play in the main shaft, it would tend to rattle when the clutch is out, and
might get quiet when the clutch is depressed.

Does the speed of the clicking follow engine RPM?  If so, remove the upper
timing cover, take a long screwdriver and press the blade against the hub of
the tensioner while the motor's running, and hold the handle of the
screwdriver up to your ear.  If the noise is emanating from the tensioner,
you should hear it distinctly.  You can use this method to probe around all
the rotating dealios until you find the source of the noise.  Of course if
you happen to have a mechanics stethoscope, use that instead.  Check the
power steering pump, water pump, A/C compressor, and alternator.
