Les Bidrawn is currently doing a project A2 16V in European Car. In a recent
issue, he looked into the 1.8 vs 2.0 head. From a visual perspective, the
intake ports on the 1.8 look like they have been ported. The runners
in-between ports are thinner and the flow path looks more direct. But the
key is that this conclusion is entirely based on visual.

His conclusion, all things equal, the 2.0l 16V head was better. With a Port
and Polish he too selected the 2.0l head in that there is more material to
work with.

IMHO- let the rumors fly, I find lots of misguided enthusiasts exchanging
their 2.0l heads or 1.8l heads. Then they sell the 2.0l head because they
think its inferior. Those of us who know better can purchase these 2.0l
heads at bargain prices. Can't beat that!

I wonder where that rumor started.  Probably from some guy who couldn't
get his hands on a 2.0 head...
