The original Quantum IS an Audi 4000 with different badges or vise versa. This car was called "Santana" in Europe. All of them were made in Germany I think. The 5cyl engine in the GL5 version is a work of art and lasts forever. Later iterations of this car added the syncro drivetrain. The engine is upgradeable with a factory Audi 4000S Quattro turbo installation for gobs of horsepower, some people have done this. Little too expensive to do for my taste. Here is a historical link of Passats for anyone interested: http://www.visi.com/~bhjelt/history.html
A properly restored and/or modified Syncro Quantum is extremely rare. Check one out, they are kind of cool. http://www.duvekot.com/qsw02.htm Rich Blake many vws including a 84 GL5 Quantum From: [email protected] To: "Les Noriel" <[email protected]>, [email protected] Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2002 13:41:40 -0400 Subject: RE: [A2-16v] the pissant and the jetta. I thought the quantum was based on the Audi 4000, not the 5000?? Anyway, the Passat is a much roomier car than the Jetta is...I've always liked it.
