I attended a porsche/bmw driving school this weekend at Sebring. This was a blast... I didn't think the instructor would let me drive all out since this was my first event, but I was at full throttle almost everywhere on the track. After learning the corners I found myself passing more and more drivers. Too bad that I had the least hp of all the cars on the track so I couldn't keep up with all the M3s, S4s, or Supra turbo on the straights.
The handling of the shine street suspension with rear bar is excellent (of course that is my opinion and I haven't tried anything else on my 90 jetta). My brand new toyo t1s tires did wear down a bit, but I was expecting much more wear. The mintex red box street pads didn't noticably fade. I do have a question for you all about the sub frame mounts. The bolts that hold the passenger side control arm in place don't seem to tighten down as firmly as the passenger side does. I checked the torque of the pass side before the event just to be safe (they tightened to 100lbs just fine). The drivers side is easily at 90lbs, but it seems like I could keep turning and turning the bolt and eventally strip it completely. I've ordered a longer rear control arm bolt and will see if that helps engage more theads. If I do have to repair the threads in the body can anyone give some advice. Do I have to weld a new cap nut from inside the car? I had to tighten the driver side rear control arm mount at the track because it has come slightly loose when my tire went off the track on to the wave pavement. My car immedately started pulling to the left, but that was the last lap for that session anyway. Chad
