hey all,
i have had some interesting experiances latly and want to see if any one else 
can explain them.

it started before i got the car, it burns a liter/quart of oil per tank of gas. 
it was very visable from the tailpipe, i thought the rings were gone.
after 3 yrs it was time for an e-test, so i talked to a local tuner about 
replacing the block, he suggested that i disconect the crank 
breather/recirulater hose from between the air box and the block and replace it 
with a filter
after this, just as he said, no smoke from the tailpipe, still uses same amount 
of oil, just no smoke and passed the test
he said it is a 16v design problem, even after spending over $5000 on his 
2035cc 179whp engine it still had this problem,

so what gives? how could vw let this happen with the emission requirments?
this has confused me greatly
