Dont know if its too late to reply to your questions but i will try. you said the car says "Jetta" and has the GLi in red? from all the jettas i have seen, driven and owned, VW only had the red badge on the early jettas (before 89) also, the 90-92 Jettas have larger bumpers that which the lower part of them is usually painted to match the body, and the rear bumpers on these have a notch at the bottom where the exhaust comes out.
All GLi's have 16V Engines, 8?-89 came with a 1.8L 16V and the 90-92 came with a 2.0L 16V As far as any resale value, I guess it would depend on how bad the crack is. Unless your looking to replace the block, i wouldnt bother with the car, if its been driven and neglected so far as to crack the block, im sure its got and it going to have plenty of other problems for a long time. How can I tell if this is a '90-'92 (or any other year) from the back and sides? Do all late GLI's have the 16v engine? Is then 16v engine based on the previous one or is it like the one in my B3 Passat? How much is the car worth as is (cracked block), and after being fixed?
