Thats exactly how A2 16V's die off. :( People who own them have unfortunate things like this happen, and instead of have their cars restored, they part them out and buy a3's. [piss on that idea] this spring my gli hit 180k miles, i sold it to a guy i knew who was really into a2's.. and took the money and bought another GLi. thats the right idea. This is the JettaGLiRealm, not the JettaGLSRealm!!! and now you people are suggesting that Ryan dump the A2 idea??

The title of this True Story: Fleet Week gone bad :( So I was on my way up to SF's Fleet Week Air Show this morning on 101 Dubbin' along in the number one lane right around the Hillsdale Foster City off-ramp when there's a massive slowdown in front of me. I step on the cross drilled Brembo's and get the GLI stopped in time as I had my 3 second safety gap going, but then I look up in my rearview mirror and see a squirrelly Toyota Camery with all wheels locked and plumes of smoke billowing from all four of its screeching tires. I then maneuver to get away via the center divide escape, but couldn't get out of the way fast enough... BAM.., BAM... The Toyota slams into me at about 15mph then I clip the divider at 5mph, but manage not to hit any other vehicles and minimize the damage to my front end with some quick steering. I kill the tunes and the engine, flip the hazards on and grab my cell then dial 911. All 911 circuits are busy at the moment, please wait on the line, meanwhile a man comes up to my drivers window visibly shaken and in very broken English try's to hand me some info so he can continue on to the Airport to get his passenger there on time. I respond with informing him that the CHP will be here in 10mins and that he should go and get back in to his vehicle in case we get hit again. He paces back to his vehicle and then turns around again and try's to negotiate his escape, but I inform him that there's been way more than $500 in damages to both vehicles and that if he leaves the scene of this accident he may be arrested, he then heads back and pops a nervous smoke while leaning causally on the divider. An emergency operator clicks on the line and says, "How may I help you?" I inform her of what happened and my location as well as the fact that no one seems to be hurt yet... A few mins later two CHP cruisers pull up behind us and inform us that a third CHP Officer is running a Traffic Block. He asks us to pull out, then onto the shoulder of the Hillsdale Blvd. at his signal. A few more mins pass and suddenly there's no traffic on 101 Northbound. I get the signal and drop the clutch, my wheels spin on the loose slurry then catch, I launch forward and quickly go through the gears to 60mph while changing lanes. The rest of this story is rather boring; aside from the warning I got for a modified exhaust system. Here are the pics. They are very high resolution, so consider yourself warned. http://www.glirealm.com/crash/INDEX.HTM Looks like the GLI will now need $5K in restoration to get it back in show condition, trouble is Bluebook is $3,400. Should I part it out and buy an A2 Corrado SLC or a A3 GTI VR6? Not to worry, If I do get a new model Dub, I will still keep the "GLIREALM" going. Kind regards, Ryan D.
