When my car was mysteriously loosing coolant at the track, Alex properly
diagnosed it when nobody else could including VW mechanics. It would only
lose coolant, and lots of it, at sustained high rpm but never lost a drop in
hundreds of spirited
street miles. Sure enough, one of the bolts did break in the block. Backdated
to
early bracket (thanks Danny!!!) and no more problems...

With mixed emotions, I've accepted a significant deposit to sell the car to an
A2 enthusiast just hours ago. After decades of VWs and 6 GTIs/GLIs,
it may very well been my last. One thing is certain, if I ever own another,
it'll definitely be a 2.0 16v...

Soon I'll be dub-less and will unsub from this list before I get booted off
again... :-)
Thank to this list, I've gained many friends/enemies esp in the SoCal area,
whether going to the track together or going out for sushi...

For you sissies, you'll find me mostly lurking on various Miata resources... :-)

Literally 80% of the problems with my car have been based in the belts area
of the engine. Removing my A/C made my car break a lot less.
You need to remove your A/C, alternator, power steering brackets and to
inspect everything. Chances are, you either have loose bolts, broken bolts,
missing bolts, and/or broken brackets. I've gone through this crap a bunch
of times. You should also upgrade to the 1.8 16V a/c bracket. Save yourself
a lot of possible headaches, like your water pump bolts breaking off into the
block. Fun stuff.
