Hi there, Im Chaz fromSouth Africa.
What size turbo are you looking at purchasing? Down here we have found out
that the hyrid t3/t4 works the best on the 16v's. Its the t3 exhaust
housing and t4 compressor and wheel. I believe that turbonetics makes them
as well but we use garret as the parts are cheaper and far more attainable
than the turbonetics products, that being because there is only one
"big"agent that sells turbonetics product here in south africa. He charges
us like R400 more for a 360 degree thrust bearing.
Personally standalone mngmnt is the best route when going turbo because
you'll have much more to work with when you want to run serious boost as I
dont think the std mngmnt would be able to handle even more than 0.6bar(not
sure what that is in psi???). Down here we use Domingoes and MIC(Micro
injection Control), they seem to be working very well.
As for the compression ratio, obviously it would differ largely as we live
on two different continents. We usually go for the 8.5:1 by building up the
head, the double copper head usually blows.
If you know a bit about mechanics then I guess doing your own turbo
conversion wouldnt be to costly. Try and source good second hand parts and
work from there.

If everything seems to be going well, you obviously dont know what is going
on?
