Don't know how many socal listers there are, but just a warning. On the
Vanagon list, there have been some major quality issues with FAST GERMAN
AUTO out of Santa Ana. One listee had his engine rebuilt only to have it
completely blow out the head gaskets on both sides. Upon inspection the
engine was assembled with improper sealant and probably had improper torques
on the head bolts. Another listee had a clutch changed in his van and it
was returned to him with grease prints in the interior and doors, brake
fluid splashed all over the dash (the vanagon master cylinder is under the
dash) ruining his speedo and other instruments, the dash gauge panel was
also cracked. The mechanic at first denied being in there and then all of
the sudden "remembered" he was there when questioned about how he bled the
clutch.

Both people are having a hard time with the company. They are probably
going to court to try to compensate for damages.

Just another reason to do or learn how to do your own work. Don't know how
many if any use this place but with over 1000 vanagon listees they probably
wont see too many vanagons in the future.
