While straight-forward, replacing the timing belt and water pump are
a huge PITA in these cars - in the past few years, I haven't done
either with the motor in the car b/c it's such a pain but I digress.

Since you've already done this on an 8v, you're well aware of what's
necessary in the way of tools.  As for the tensioner spanner, it's
readilly available and costs about $15.  The only
"while-you're-there" task would be to replace all of the drive belts
at the same time.  Also you'd be wise to purchase new allen bolts for
the pulleys as they tend to get deformed during removal.  The only
caveat is to ensure that the timing marks line up exactly - unlike
the 8v motor, the valves WILL touch the pistons with less than
desirable results.
