You might check to see if this was covered by a recall. If so, that would be the easiest way to resolve this. You can find some more info at: http://www.gti16v.org/vwrec88.htm, or your local VW dealer should be able to tell you if your car is covered.

well, I've got a leaking heating core I guess. Loads of steam coming out the vents, damp carpet underneath the middle, and leaking fluid under the car. Now, I'm going to try some Stop Leak to seal it but if it doesn't work I'm not sure what to do. A VW mechanic I've never used advised me not to change it out myself. I have no special tools, but can handle medium level mechanical stuff. He said it took him like 11 hours and he billed for 9 and that he used 3 VW tools in the process. Any tips? Is he right in his recommendation? thanks alot
