I installed my techtonics cams and revised tt chip last night. I was able
to line up the timing "o" marks on the cams perfectly. The "o" on both
cams lined up just above the top of the head when they were directly
across from each other.
o_____o
That is how is looks from the driver side of the car looking at
the marks. I used a small metal ruler flat against the top of the head to
help me gauge where the marks were. According to the bentley this is
right.
Anyway, when the timing belt sprocket's mark is lined up with the top of
the head the cam "o" marks no longer line up. The exhaust cam mark is
slightly lower than the top of the head and the intake cam mark is is
slightly higher than before. Sorta like this:
o
______
o
If I had an adjustable cam sprocket I could set the belt timing and still
have the marks line up like o_____o. How should it be? I'll probably
call Collin at TT Monday just to get his option. The autotech cam install
guide I found on the web
(http://www.autotech.com/instructions/i109418.pdf) mentioned to treat the
timing of the cam marks completely separate from timing the exhaust
sprocket.
Did some of you guys with tt cams notice the same thing? Is an adjustable
sprocket worth the ~$100?
