Bought my current GLI (92) from a farmer up in Maine about a year and a half ago- had 77K on the car, looked like it was just driven out of the showroom. I just hit 100K (did a lot of driving last year). My last GLI made it 160K until the headgasket went, on the stock clutch! Most folks say that the 16v doesn't even break in until about 100K anyways. When I was shopping for my current GLI, I saw a lot of cars with >130K on them. Some really nice, some pretty bad. I paid a little extra for the car I eventually bought because of the low mileage, really good documentation, and some nice upgrade (BOGE turbo-gas all around, GIAC chip, rebuilt and weighted shifter). Think is was a lucky find, the current GLIs that I see on the 'vortex or other sources have mucho mileage..
