The starter is mounted via three bolts. Two to the transmission and one to the front motor mount. On the other (engine) side of the motor mount is a tab with a nut welded to it. There's supposed to be a bolt in that mount, but it was missing on mine. When I removed the starter, the whole engine lurched downwards at a pretty good rate and almost landed on my head. Luckilly it got caught on the front mount. ANYWAY, I circled the location where (presumably) there is supposed to be a bolt. Does anyone know what size bolt goes there? Is the engine threaded inside that hole, or is only the mount threaded? If the engine isn't threaded, its kind of backwards, since there's no way to get a bolt through from the transmission side. What gives?

Hmmm, I think what you have circled there, that's just where the end of one of the starter bolts goes. The top & longest of the three goes right through the starter, transmission case, then through that eyelet on the engine block, and ends up in that nut welded to the other side of the engine mount. Only the nut is threaded.

Oh, and what size/type are the twelve sided bolts around the outside of the flywheel/pressure plate assembly there in the picture?

Those are 9mm 12-points.

Cheers,
Oleg
