Well it definitelly sounds like ignition switch problem, as it was mentioned
earlier. The ignition swith sometimes develops something tricky: even if it
cranks fine, it still will not start, or vice versa. This is because there
are separate pins combining the starter position. Try this: turn the
ignition key to starter position and then slowly turn the ignition key
backwards (like releasing from starter position) and if in one moment it
starts right up, then you have to take out the contact package from ignition
switch (access it from bottom, I guess there was just one small bolt holding
it) and see if it can be cleaned or one of the contacts has moved of its
position as the plastic has melted because some intermitent contact problem
existed before.
If the dashboard lights are reacting on tap as well as clock, this is
separate issue. I guess you should check the cables going to the dashboard.
