The fact that your idle jumps seems to indicate that your low pressure
switch is working. In other words in absence of enough coolant in the
system your compressor is NOT running (since the coolant also contains
the lubricant and running the comp. without it would cook it in short
order).
Not sure what a good reading is on the low side, but that seems high.
Since it a. blows warm and b. it seems to trip the low pressure switch
to disable the compressor.
I'm sure more knowledgeable people on the list would have other
insights.

So I'm finally getting around to working on my a/c system, which at the

Is there a test to know if the compressor is operating correctly? I
didn't see anything in the Bentley.
When I turn the a/c on, the idle jumps from 1200rpm to 2000 and stays
there, and there is an audible clicking noise from the compressor.
Doesn't seem good. :/
Also, I hooked a pressure gauge to the lowside port (by the
firewall/evaporator) and it reads 45psi.
