There is a proper lisence plate holder for the front bumper on small bumper and big bumper MK2s.
Here are the Part Numbers for the front plate holders Small bumper PN: 176 807 997 Big Bumper PN: 191 813 995 I'm sure you'd be able to find one at a wrecker as well as the necessary screws.
