It seems I found the answer to my question.
I found some info on Vortex regarding the use of Mercedes Injectors on 16V's

It looks as though the caps can be pressed back on the injector with no
adverse effects.

Subject: [a2-16v-list] Injector Problems
Hey Guys,
I decided to change the rubber injector o-rings on my 91 GTX.
All did not go so smoothly.
I manged to get cyl's 1, 2, and 3 without any probs.
Cyl no. 4 was not fun. The injector came out but the Air-Shroud cap was
left behind in the injector seat.
I was planning on removing the injector seat (or injector insert) with a
12mm or 13mm hex tool (as per the Bentley) then tap out the Air Shroud Cap
from the injector insert and putting it back on the injector.
Will the injector work properly once the Air Shroud Cap is put back on?
Thanks guys,
Mark Reda.
