Right on...I live/work near Washington, DC and frequently see every
new, fancy ultra-exotic, uber-expensive car known to man on a
quasi-daily basis. Sometimes I wonder "What am I doing wrong?" when
I'm driving around in 15+ yr old cars (except for my 7 yr old pickup
truck), wearing non-designer label clothes and not keeping current
with every new electronic gadget. Then I remember that I was raised
to SAVE my pennies, not to OVERSPEND beyond my income level. It's
good to know that I'm not the only cheap SOB left in America.

While I don't street-drive VWs anymore (unless you consider an Audi
V8 a VW which it is, sorta), I find quite a bit of enjoyment driving
my 18 yr old BMW that "only" has 300 hp (compared to 400 hp for the
latest model) but offers the driver phenomenal inputs unlike the numb
cars built today. I recently instructed for a Mercedes-Benz drivers
education event and was amazed at the smoothness and power of the
AMG cars. At the same time, I was appalled that the cars reduced
feedback to the drivers and were competent enough to save drivers
from their lack of driving ability.
