Believe it or not I am also still here. My 1987 GTI 16V gets out about once a month for a drive early on a Sunday morning. Here where I live in Eastern Pennsylvania it is amazing what antique, classic and street rods you see out and about on a Sunday morning. I suppose there are other owners like me who enjoy a nice ride with less Idiots on the road. It is so nice to get the GTI 16V out and just drive her. Maybe in 2006 my GTI 16V may make it out to a few VW Shows. It has been 5 years since she was last at a show and maybe it is time she gets out some.

Jessie, last year when I was looking for a new vehicle (that could tow) I considered the V8 Touareg. Unfortunately, my financial alter ego could not convince my VW enthusiast side to buy it. The Touareg is a nice vehicle but it's higher purchase price (16K more), higher maintenance cost (2X more) and questionable reliability (I was shopping a 2004) made me shy away from it. In the end, I think I shocked a few VW people I know when they saw me driving a Toyota 4Runner pulling my trailer. My 4Runner has been bullet proof so far and my Toyota dealer has been very prompt, professional and most of all honest. Hopefully that will continue. It should be interesting to see the 3.0L V6 TDI Touareg in the future. Given the Federal Gov't has pushed back the diesel standards (due to the Gulf hurricanes) I have serious doubts that VWoA will bring the V6 or V10 diesels into the USA in the Touareg in 2006. Time will tell.

I still here as well. My 91 gli has been off the road for a couple of years. I am working on a restoration. I have also been collecting parts (it is a sickness). At this point I have it almost down to the unibody. I need to remove the engine and it should be ready for the body shop. It has the dreaded rust around the windshield, which precipitated the restoration. I have a 16 month old son who has taken away most of my car time/therapy. I plan this winter to get back into it and spend many a Saturday working on it. In the mean time I have two other VWs to keep up maintenance on; my wife's 01 golf 1.8t and my 4.2 V8 Touareg:) I know most of you have panned the Touareg, but it is a nice vehicle. When VW brings the 3.0 V6 TDi next year and you can get 25-30 mpg instead of 13-17 it will be even better. The sound though of that V8 when you stomp on it is just great.
