I had battles with the high idle and a bouncing one. The high idle was fixed with new throttle body switches from the stealer. The bouncing one turned out to be some shady wiring that a mechanic did on my o2 sensor. The car was running so rich you could smell it. As for a rubber gasket on the oil pan, there is a rubber one with sort of a built in windage tray to keep the oil away from the crank and in the oil pan on hard corners. I recall I got mine from germanautoparts.com for around $40 a few years ago when I installed a turbo kit on my Rabbit. Lastly, I also had hard shifting into 1st gear following an install of a short shift kit. All it needed was an adjustment underneath the shifter. It was a biatch to get aligned properly. Still have my '88 GLi; Turned 136,000 about a week ago. She runs great, needs a few things. Time for some maintenance- I think she'll need a new clutch soon. Still haven't figured out the bumpy idle problem. I've got a few oil leaks, from the oil pan gasket(replaced it once, do they make a rubber gasket for these?), and around the oil intercooler(I think). And just as it's gotten colder around here, my blower is now become quite bothersome- very noisy, time for a replacement, methinks. Anyone ever have a problem with shifting into 1st? I'll have to check the bushings. Thanks! Good to hear from everyone.
