Maybe it's contagious; I now have the same problem. I hear one or both pumps
go on w/ignition and stop, can't tell if it's still on when it cranks and
the noise is a lot less than it used to make. I pulled an injector and it's
dry. Shouldn't something come out when cranking? To me it sounds like the
main pump is bad right? I can't hear the transfer pump at all, should I be
able to?
I just realized that the relay has 2 signals, the key and rpm from the dizzy
or ignition module. I replaced the relay but never jumped it. I'll bypass
that relay to make sure, the car's not here so I can't troubleshoot
correctly.
By the way the car was running fine, during 1 hard corner it quit, it
started and ran for a 1/4 mile.
Anymore thoughts?
Thanks,
Steve

PS Dizzy leaks oil also.

Larry,

I went through a similar situation not long ago. To make a long
story short, I tested for fuel at the inlet to the fuel
distributor as you did, with the same result - fuel sprayed seemingly
under pressure. However, in the end, the main
fuel pump was bad. I pulled it and ran it on the bench, where it ran
and sprayed fuel across the garage, so I assumed
it was good. It wasn't. There's a lot more to the story, but bottom
line is, a new main pump solved the problem (car
wouldn't start). Highly unlikely that the F.D. is bad, unless
someone monkeyed with it prior to your problem arising.
