I'd still try to ask VW: you got lucky on time and distance, but this has been a recurring problem on ALL VW's through a very long stretch of production. Their fault, their problem. I had a couple that had already been replaced once under previous ownership, but the second one had corroded the same way. If it's subject to the recall and hasn't already been done, you're eligible for warranty work (you'll need the VIN #, and it is a quick response either way).

Sorry for the repost but I seem to remember someone on the list posting step
by step directions (or close to it) on replacing the heater core in their
A2. I saved the post on my computer thinking I would need it some day but
my computer crashed and that section wasn't backed up so no longer have it.
Well, the heater core is gone and needs to be replaced so any help would be
appreciated. If you have done it before, is the Bentley straight forward or
are there any tricks to watch out for?

Yes I know this item was a recall but since it lasted for 184K miles, I
don't think I could go to them and ask them to replace it.

Thanks,
