The 'finger' in the TO bearing cover, on an old Mk2 of mine, had a
hairline crack in it, and when I'd push the clutch pedal, the finger
would flex, and not apply 100% pressure to the clutch PP. It shortly
thereafter, broke, and the pedal went to the floor..
Good point Ricky, I found the clutch actuating arm on the outside of
the gearbox was bent and slightly cracked on the 92 GTI I am driving
now. Dunno how much of a problem it would have been but its pushing
up daisys or whatever in the local landfill.
The new one fits tight but I had no idea how deep to set it... there
seemed to be a stop-ridge inside the shaft so that's where it is now.
The depth at which the bushing sits is about 3/8" or so. I'm sure it
isn't that critical as the purpose seems to be to support the front
end of the pushrod shaft and stop it from wobbling around while it
waits to do its job......Jack
