My 91 gli has sat in the middle of a restoration started about five years ago before the birth of my first son. The younger son just past two and I am starting to see limited free time again. I hope to finish in the next five years ;-)
I am still enjoying VWs. My wife's daily driver is a 01 Golf 1.8t and mine is a 04 Touareg V8. I keep busy with PM and repairs on these as well as the house. Plan to put a Shine suspension in the Golf this spring. Both have limited mods, but nothing like the the gli was.
