I've been considering swapping the stock 16v transmission for one from
a mk3 2.0l due to the taller gearing. Last night I scanned craigslist
and found one for $250 so I offered $150 via email and he said no way.
I called him up and asked if $200 would do it, and if so I'd get it
tonight... so that worked and now I have the transmission that should
be much better suited to the turbo'd engine. When I'm on the highway
it may be a little more pleasant too.

I have a complete transmission gasket and seal kit on the way so I'm
thinking of installing my limited slip. On the other hand I almost
don't even want to open up the transmission :) I am getting so lazy
when it comes to working on the car.

If I won't be able to get more than $200 for the 16v trans then it may
make sense to keep it for a spare. Other than a chipped reverse gear
it is perfect at 230k miles. What is a fair price to ask for it? Are
the closer ratio units in higher demand that the mk3 2.0l
transmissions?
