I've never tried the 205 width on my MKII. Much of the car's effective
spring rate are actually in the sidewall of the tire. There was an article
in the publication "European Car" several years ago that discussed the
differences in sidewalls and their effect on handling and ride quality.
(Don't see too many articles like that anymore)

With that said, I do have two very similar Jeep Cherokees that my wife and
I use as daily drivers. All things being virtually equal, she runs a tire
that is 1 cm wider than the tires mounted on mine. The extra 1cm of width
does make a noticeable difference in ride characteristics. I sometimes
drive her car to work where I share driving duties with a carpool. They
have made mention that the ride comfort in her car is better than in mine
which has the narrower profile tire. 215/75-15 vs 225/75-15
You may experience a little bit of rubbing on the inside wheel well with
the wider tire when steering is at its extremes (Such as parking)--it will
depend on the offset of your wheels.

I noticed on the TireRack catalog, that 195-50-15s are not so plentiful
anymore when compared with a few years ago. 195s used to be "Plus 1"
Apparently the market has gone decidedly larger regarding wheels.
