You do not want to use -join and "clips" in the usage help is a
place-holder, not a literal. If you look at the examples in the demo
subdirectory as explained here you would see none of them use -join:
http://www.mltframework.org/bin/view/MLT/AuthoringExamples

So, just remove "-join clips" and that puts v1.mp4 and v2.mp4 into a
playlist, which plays the clips seamlessly.

You want to use "-consumer avformat:join_out.mp4" not redirect stdout
to mp4 file!
