Solution....

Open box ...
Locate PCI modem ...
Remove it from slot ...
Close box ...
boot machine ...

grab pci card ...
drill a hole and attach it to the christmas tree...

PURCHASE an EXTERNAL MODEM...

Twanny win modems are a big big headache to work under LInux. There are some
projects to make them work, but by the time you find the problem ... you
would have long forgot why you needed the modem on the first place. The
problem is not that Linux sucks but drivers for these modems usually exsist
only under windows. Given that all the DSP for the modem is done using CPU
cycles then the driver is pretty hardwired to the OS...

Win modems are not that stable etiher .. an external modem costs lm20 and
will be hassle free for you. simple attach to com port and address is under
say ttys0. You will be up and running in no time..

Good luck

Hi all,

I have this Soft 56K Conexant modem which is working ok on windows2000. It's
connected to COM3 with IRQ 11. When it comes to Linux ,I can't get Minicom
working let alone connect to the internet. Its a PCI Modem on a DTK
motherboard. I'm using Zipslack (from Slakware).

Anyone knows a good way round? By the way how was the MLUG, I stopped
receiving emails? What happened -- no one turned up, I could'nt come, maybe
next time I come. This modem problem is really giving me in.

Twanny.
