The ISO images are 3 large files, each as large as an entire CD, which you burn onto the CD at one go. Normally the CD writing program has an option to burn an image, you should use this rather than try to burn it as a normal file. There are only 3 CDs in the Mandrake 9.1 download edition so if you ended up with 5 CDs you definitely got something wrong. Only the first CD is essential for installation. When it prompts you for the second CD etc., you can press cancel if you don't have them. Personally I find Mandrake a very good choice, but ultimately it's a matter of personal preference. All distros are good for PHP and MySQL.
