Dear MLUG If the eventual intention is to form a committee to the MLUG direction, I am willing to be involved.
I would suggest putting together a *tentative* committee, meeting for a brainstorming session, and putting ideas on paper. For successful progress the *tentative* committee shoud have at least 2 named posts, namely chairman and secretary: Chairman to give the meeting direction and purpose, and Secretary to keep records of the goings on, minutes of meeting discussion and decisions taken. Chairman should be the person who at this stage is most likely to know where we are coming from and with a vision of "where we want to be tomorrow". Secretary should be a person who realises that this support role is potentially the busiest and the most thankless. With these two posts in place - a *tentative* committee would have sufficient momentum to keep things flowing. Obviously my opinions, based on my involvement in another club (non-IT related) - the MLUG may have other ideas of running itself. ------------------------------------------------------ For the record, My involvement with Linux is basically using as a Home Desktop platform, and additionally as a near-future implementation project at my work place of a Linux server for web, mail, and DBMS purposes. I am using Red Hat 9 with Ximian Desktop 2 (unstable). Looking to change to Debian in the near future... ------------------------------------------------------ Regards Kevin Attard Compagno
