Yes you can use the "su" command:

su -l myuser -s /bin/sh -c "command to start vnc"

        Hi,

I have set up VNC to load on machine startup via rc.local which
however
means that it loads under root and not default user since at
that point
the machine is still loading up.

Does anyone know how I can start it under a different non-root
account
on startup of the machine? And better to bind to desktop:0 ?

        regards,

        Hi there,

That's a good idea and I do use it regularly... But there are
some
occasions when I can't use VNC... like connecting via VNC to the
machine, su to root and trying to launch konqueror - doesn't
work.

Also, When the machine goes down etc... It's nice to see what's
        happening.
