My school (Swatar Training Centre) does have a course for IT Essentials
II : Network Operating System which concentrates primarily on Linux. The
problem is they haven't done it in a while, also, it tends to focus only
on the networking capabilities of Linux.
Some time ago Red Hat Europe also had a conference here.

Yes i know you're totally right! but how then can we get to them! Or
else just forget about home Pc and go to Goverment (yeah right!!) ,
schools , offices etc! Which in my opinion is far more difficult! But
with a decent approach it could be plausable!

I have suggested this approach at the latest (and only) MLUG meeting but
received harsh criticism about the way of advocating Linux for Joe User.
People aren't interested in installing Linux. They are NOT even
interested in installing Windows. They just want a computer that works.
I have had enough !!

I'm sorry to butt in but I think its quite useless complaining between
the same people....I'm not too sure if anyone here will spot out a
decent solution.
I'm quite in favour of Linux, even tough I'm a beginner (as most of us
are),
and found lots of trouble. So..
I agree totally with trying to put Linux on the Maltese PCs. So why
don't you (meaning the Linux Group) try to find a computer store who
will start distributing Linux instead of Windows and maybe one of you
guys (this goes to the Geeks) go and give a lecture or two the new
fellows! Maybe this kick start it!!

Subject: [LINUX.ORG.MT] The 6 types of computer users
There are 6 types of computer users
5 - UBER GEEKS
4 - Geniuses
3 - Experts
2 - Advanced users
1 - Novices
0 - Total Beginners
Uber Geeks find Linux easy to use because they're geeks. Geniuses also
find Linux easy because they're geniuses.
Total Beginners and Novices find Linux easy because they don't do
anything with it except use programs which come installed with the
system. I'm quite sure a monkey can be trained to launch
openoffice.org.
The problem lies in 2 and 3. Advanced users and Experts aren't as
"litterate" as Geniuses and Uber Geeks, however, they would like to do
more stuff then novices and total beginners. So, they'd want to install
programs, configure stuff, etc.. etc.. Which is difficult. I think many
budding computer students (such as myself) fall into these two
categories. Most computer students simply abandon Linux and use
Windows, maybe until they're geniuses/uber geeks. Very few keep trying
ad nauseum.
