I have been following in passing your correspondence and i would like to pitch in my thoughts. First of all well done on the activity being generated on the list. > I am glad that most of u appreciate the difficulty of using linux for the average user, and in my humble opinion the trick is to somehow offer cheap basic training in that respect, obviously in parallel to the awareness building campaign. > This can be done easily by having one of u guys offering a 2 hour class for a few weeks (for a minimal fee) to the general public; and before u know it u will achieve your target of cultivating a small linux community that can get together and grow. > To help in that respect i can propose that i request management here to make the premises available for such lectures or for whatever other event u might wish to make. Unfortunately, I can only offer a few P2/P3 terminals for this. > Another way of supporting training, is by offering online learning or online videos. Mandrake does this quite well, and i am sure MCST can help u guys get a module online through our online learning platform (avicenna) and maybe fillm the training suggested above. Philip knows what i am talking about since i beleive he is indirectly involved. > So if anyone is interested in this training effort i would be more than glad to meet up and discuss details. > One last remark, is that perhaps u should consider and promote 3rd party applications like VMware to ensure linux wannabe's that they can keep both systems running without going through the hassle of having separate partitions and what not. I personally find this very comforting and worth the occasional linux experiment. http://www.soft-best.net/news.php?go=567 Let me know > > _______________________________________________ > Brian Restall Malta Council for Science and Technology http://www.mcst.org.mt Villa Bighi, Kalkara CSP 12, Malta > Email/MSN [EMAIL PROTECTED] <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > +356 2360 2134 Direct Dialing +356 7946 7079 Mobile +356 2166 0340 Switchboard +356 2166 0341 Fax _______________________________________________ > This email and any files transmitted with it are confidential and intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed.
