Regarding the GCC3.4 problem:

I've re-emerged gcc and gcc-config, then I did

fix_libtool_files.sh 'gcc --dumpversion' i686-pc-linux-gnu

emerge --update --deep world worked fine :)

I use gentoo because of it's great package management system and
because it has one of the best communities around. I've always found
all my problems in the gentoo forums.
