Connecting a fiber to a 2.5Gbit interface in the commercial world does not
mean you have 2.5gbits of bandwidth. The amount of bandwidth you then have
is what you pay for. The the 2.5G thing only means that once Vodafone wants
more than 2.5G of bandwidth (give that a couple of years) besides buying the
bandwidth they also have to upgrade the interface i.e. fork out more $$$.

AFAIK, Vodafone does have 1Tb but is only using around 2G of it and
will increase gradually.
But, who the hell is using those 2G? Is Vodafone even using them?
Have ISPs bought any of it? Or is it just another under-sea
decoration?

I would be curious to see 1 Tbit link. Vodafone has 2 Gbits MAX.

DataStream has advised that the limits are going to be as

Under 12Gb the performance will be very good but if
exceeded the performance will be reduced. If 20Gb are
exceeded the performance will be like a dialup

Yeah right, Datastream have >STM-64, my arse! Get real. I
highly doubt they have even a single STM-16. More like a
couple (tops) STM-4s. Actually, they're Maltacom's lines in
any case and Datastream are limited in their use as the cost
of IP connections is so prohibitively high that ISPs locally
are hard pressed to be able to sell services at any profit.
What IP connectivity used by the local ISPs, I suspect, is
nothing approaching even STM-4, perhaps (probably) even not
touching
STM-1.
12/20GB, where did that come from??
In addition to the above, Datastream could not guarantee any
amount of bandwidth in terms of service availability and as
such they will give no SLAs. 'Service', pfffft!!
<remaining rant removed>
All pigs fueled and ready to fly...
"In fact the total amount of current utilised capacity
connecting Malta to the global Internet is around 700Mbps."
2 x STM-4.
Regs.
