Hi Alan,

Welcome to the LUG!

We're currently writing a series of articles for publication in local media, to increase Linux awareness. Should you be interested in writing an article, head over to: http://wiki.linux.org.mt/articles/Wiki.jsp?page=ArticleSuggestions for current article ideas.

Hi Alan,
Nice to have you on board (do I sound like a stewardess?) I agree
with your comments on tossad and its definitely something that we should
be looking into more deeply. I will see if I can set up an appointment
with Brian to discuss. On the consultancy venture, I think its an
excellent idea and one which I would be doing myself had procrastination
not taken the better of me.
Thanks for the offer to help. You could start by looking at areas where
you Linux interests you most and possibly writing some article in that
area. Just hang around a few hours and I bet the committee will be back
to you with a few ideas ;)

Cheers

Hi All,

I am a very recent addition to MLUG. I have been involved with computers as an enthusiast and also on a part time and hobby basis since circa 1982 (Commodore VIC20, C64, AMIGA, ... PC's ... etc.). I have also worked for a couple of years with a local company as a programmer on a UNIX machine. My primary profession does not involve computers at all, although there are a lot of them on the Aircraft. I am currently in my third year BSc Computing and Information Systems (University of London) and during my recent studies have become very interested in Open Source Software. I have used for the past four years OpenOffice.org and in the past 8 months Firefox and Thunderbird.

I have also in the past delved into BSD (little Torito) and also SUSE Linux (I think it was 6.2), to name a few, but never actually made the leap to permanently working with Linux or other free OS. My mind is now made up and I will be installing Gentoo on a new machine within the week and also Ubuntu 5.10 (Breezy Badger) on a brand new Notebook.

I could not help but send an e-mail when I saw Brian Restall's message regarding www.tossad.org. I would seriously like to set up an OSS consultancy in Malta to help anybody interested to make the transition to OSS. I truly believe that this is the future and we must make a start towards this future now. It is initiatives like www.tOSSad.org that will start to make this possible. MLUG also has the very important role of increasing Linux awareness and assisting those persons who take the plunge. Keep up the good work all of you.

I would like to get more involved in MLUG in the future, but feel that I still have a lot to learn before I can make a positive contribution. I look forward to accessing the MLUG web-site for information and attending an MLUG meeting sometime soon.

Very Best Regards,

Alan.
